Collection: Broth Recipes for Pets

Preparing your own home made bone broth is a exciting way to be involved in the process of cooking for your dog.

Bone broth is rich in dissolves of collagen, cartilage, bone, and marrow. Bone broth is a mineral-rich stock made by boiling bones along with (dog-friendly) herbs and vegetables for more than a day. This makes it a nutrient-dense, extremely easy, tasty superfood for dogs.

Beneficial nutrients in both broths include vitamins, minerals, collagen, essential fatty acids, amino acids glycine, proline, and glutamine, and proteoglycans.

Using bone broth is a fantastic way to encourage dogs to drink when they refuse to, or to encourage a dog to eat food by adding some into the bowl.

  • Bone broth can support joint health and may help to fight inflammation in a dog’s joints, as it contains glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate. Hyaluronic acid, another nutrient in bone broth, helps cushion and preserve collagen in the joints.
  • Bone broth can be rich in amino acids, supporting essential functions in your pet's body.
  • The collagen found in animal bones breaks down during the cooking process of bone broth to create gelatin. Both collagen and gelatin provide dogs with ample protein and amino acids, which the body can use to produce more collagen.
  • Glutamine, another important amino acid, may help to prevent a gut imbalance known as intestinal dysbiosis in pets. Glutamine helps strengthen the intestinal lining and reduces irritation.
  • For dogs experiencing digestive issues like diarrhea, bone broth is great to assist during recovery, because it’s hydrating, gentle on the stomach, and packed with essential nutrients.
